Northside Independent School District (NISD) announced its policy today for providing free and reduced-price meals for children served under the attached current income eligibility guidelines. Each school/site or the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by anyone on request.

The non-profit organization and valued Northside ISD partner, OASIS, is recruiting grandparents and adults over 50 to spend one hour a week tutoring the same elementary student for one semester.

Northside ISD is holding an Auxiliary Job Fair to fill more than 170 positions for bus drivers, food service workers, food service manager trainees, police officers, custodians, and maintenance workers. The Job Fair will be held from 9 a.m.  to 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at the Northside Activity Center, 7001 Culebra Road.

It is time for families to start updating their immunizations in order to be prepared to return to school for the 2016-17 school year in August. Some students may not have the requisite number of shots and not know it due to the state increasing the number of shots required at various grade levels.

Millions of people watched Deaf model Nyle DiMarco dance his way to the Mirrorball trophy as champion on ABC’s hit TV-show Dancing with the Stars. For the members of the San Antonio Deaf Dance Company, it was especially meaningful.

Northside ISD will open two new elementary schools when classes resume on Aug. 22. Bennie Cole and Randall Fields elementary schools will join the 117 other schools that make up South Texas’ largest school district.

The public is invited to a Rio Street Fair in the Northside Swim Center parking lot this Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fair, hosted by the NISD Aquatics Department, includes more than 50 local vendors, youth sports organizations, swim gear, and Olympic-themed activities. Passes are not required to attend.

Northside ISD is hosting a Job Fair to fill 75 positions for food service workers and food service manager trainees in the Child Nutrition Department. The Job Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at Ellison Elementary School, 7132 Oak Drive.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved salary raises for all employees, approved the renewal of UnitedHealthcare as the District’s medical insurance provider for 2017, and appointed several campus administrators, including new principals for the Jay Science & Engineering Academy and Jordan Middle School.

At the June 21 Board Meeting, Northside ISD Trustees approved a $14.6 million compensation package that will provide salary increases for around 14,000 employees.

The Texas Education Agency notified Northside ISD and all school districts in Texas that the Spring 2016 STAAR results for grades 3 through 8 will be reported to districts on July 5 NOT June 15 as originally expected. We ask parents to be patient as we will get the test results to you as soon as possible.

To comply with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, Northside ISD will once again offer free meals to children starting June 8. This year, free meals are available at 17 schools for children who are 18 years or younger.
