The NAHS English Department is excited to announce the campus winners of the May Day Poetry contest. The winners are 10th grader J. Brown with his poem, "When the War Ends" and 9th grader Y. Fuentes with his poem, "Metal and Wood". Their poems may be publised in NISD's poetry anthology. [To read their poems.]
Since 1996, schools, publishers, booksellers, writers, and poets have been celebrating the vital place of poetry in American culture. April is National Poetry Month and the students at NAHS celebrated by experimenting with different poetry genres. Students joined together across grade-levels and participated in workshops focusing on acrostic poems, diamante poetry, freestyle poetry, and found poetry. From these workshops, completed poems were judged for submission possibilities for NISD’s May Day Celebration.
Those who are six, sixteen, sixty-four, and more have all kinds of great events in store for the National Education Association's seventeenth annual observance of NEA's Read Across America. [Read more]
