The DoDEA grants have provided our students with many wonderful and enriching opportunities. This year our campus was given the opportunity to sponsor a Lego Robotics club for 30 of our 4th and 5th grade students. Students have built several different robot models and are learning to program them. So far, they have programmed their robots to travel given distances at specified speeds, stop after a specific length of time or at a given location, use a touch senor to maneuver around obstacles, create sound, display messages, and turn corners varying from 90º to 135º. As a team, they were even able to get their robots to spell out “GO MURNIN!”. Students describe the club as “awesome”, “challenging”, “fun”, “complex”, and “engaging”.
