1st Grade Students Learn About Texas

First grade Mireles students were hard at work learning about the great state of Texas. Students learned about what a symbol is and what symbols represent our state. Students learned some state symbols such as the Texas flag, the Alamo, bluebonnet, armadillo, and the mockingbird. Students also learned the history and meaning behind each symbol. First graders know that the Alamo represents Texas freedom while our state flags colors represent loyalty, bravery, purity and the lone star represents unity.

In the coming weeks we will take a closer look at people that have made great contributions to Texas, the physical characteristics of Texas and the landforms and bodies of water found in Texas, and first graders will identify Texas on a map while using their map skills to locate specific areas of Texas.
