The 4th grade science and social studies integrated curriculum takes us through a journey across Texas where we learn key science and social studies concepts in each region. We started our journey in west Texas in the mountains and basins region.
We began by exploring the geography of this region and the processes that shape this region. We then looked at natural resources found in this region and the native people who use them. Plant adaptations for desert conditions and food webs are also studied in this region. Finally, fourth graders will look at how wind farms are used in this region to generate electricity and how these wind farms have impacted the communities in this region.
The four regions of Texas are diverse and each region studied will bring new knowledge as well as some concepts that will follow throughout like weather and climate, so we can compare these differences in our great state.
