Mr. Horton says:
and 4 as an administrator. I began teaching in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then returned to my alma mater, Wingate High School, a Bureau of Indian Affairs school in far western New Mexico. I presented classes at the University of New Mexico while I pursued a Master of Arts in English. Adventure called and I moved to Mexico City where I worked in a bi-national institute teaching English and experiencing the magic that is Mexico. I returned to western New Mexico as a high school English teacher before moving to San Antonio, where I have lived since 1993. I have a BA and an MA in English from the University of New Mexico and I received a Master of Education from The University of Texas at Austin in 1997. I have worked in Northside for nine years as an English teacher at Taft High School and an assistant principal at John Jay High School. Growing up in the western New Mexico desert has given me an appreciation for subtle, harsh beauty. I have a passion for fast motorcycles, and raced them as a teenager. I began first grade in Sitka, Alaska, and experienced salmon spawning in the quiet, rugged wilderness. I have climbed the towers of Notre Dame in Paris and watched the sun rise over Machu Picchu. I have viewed the full moon in solitude over the mountains between Bolivia and Peru and have witnessed it shimmering over ocean waters off the coast of Portugal. These experiences, along with a life of intense, focused study, have instilled in me a sense of joy in the human struggle to find self and meaning in the world. I met my wife Luisa in 1988 in Mexico City where she introduced me to the excitement of Formula One racing. We enjoy our return trips there, visiting family and friends, and renewing our spiritual connection with an ancient civilization. We have two children, Anabell (8) and Wyatt (4), who keep us grounded to what is important in life. I am excited about opening Luna Middle School and I look forward to helping create an engaging, interesting, and disciplined environment where children have the opportunity to discover new ideas about themselves and the world around them. |
