Pre-kinder families get oriented at Carnahan

October 1, 2012

Carnahan ES held a Pre-Kindergarten Family Night to help orientate families with the school’s PK Literacy/Writing program. The goal was to encourage parents to support the program by checking out picture books, completing reading logs, assisting with writing activities at home, and sharing online writing links that are age-appropriate for students.

Nancy Anderson, the school's speech pathologist, gave a presentation on the importance of building strong language skills, and pre-k teacher Lydia Carrillo-Valdez talked about early Literacy and Writing development.

Pizza, salad and sandwiches were enjoyed by the families who attended. A culminating family night at the end of the year will celebrate the students' success. Books and writing journals will be awarded to every student who completed each month's goal. The program is being funded by a Target grant.
