In honor of National Walk to School Day on October 9th, more than 300 Mireles ES students walked to school.
To build excitement for the event, students were encouraged to decorate their tennis shoes with stickers, bells, and ribbons. Bus riders could also participate in the event upon arriving at school; the campus gym was set up so that students could walk laps. Children who walked received a sticker and signed the “I walked to school today!” banners displayed in the school’s foyer.
The event was also celebrated in the classroom with themed activities, including pedestrian safety tips.
Observance of this special day created an opportunity for Mireles ES students to experience a different and healthy way of traveling to school.
