Jay students hear from prominent leaders

December 17, 2013

Two prominent figures in national politics and higher education visited students at John Jay HS and the Science and Engineering Academy to start the 2013-2014 school year.

US Representative Pete Gallego and UTSA President Dr. Ricardo Romo both made trips to the campus during the first six weeks of school to visit with students about the importance of education in their lives and how it has impacted their respective careers.

Representative Gallego shared his story of growing up in a hard-working family in Abilene and overcoming obstacles to achieve a higher education and ultimately become a lawyer and member of the US Congress.

Dr. Romo shared with students his story of growing up in San Antonio and his path to becoming the leader of a top university. Students were able to ask questions and interact with both speakers and reported that they were inspired and motivated by them both.
