Glass ES celebrated its 32nd annual “Officers in Blue” event as part of their Red Ribbon Week activities.
This year’s activities were special as there were two parents who participated who are deputies in two different Bexar County departments. Deputy Michelle Barrientes has a son in second grade; and Deputy Jaime Lopez has three daughters (third, fourth, and fifth grades). The pair spoke to Pre-K through fifth graders about what it is like to be a deputy in Bexar County.
Since 1981, the school has celebrated “Officers in Blue” as a way of honoring law enforcement officers. The event gives students and the community a chance to see the many important services provided by the various law enforcement agencies in San Antonio and Bexar County. Participating this year were the NISD Police Department, San Antonio Police Department Patrol Units, San Antonio Park Police, SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, SAPD Bike Patrol, SAPD Motorcycle Unit, SAPD K-9 Unit, McGruff-SAFFE, SAPD Pre-trial, Bomb Squad, and Deputy Sheriff’s departments.
