The Board of Trustees, Superintendent and Administration
of NISD are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment
for all employees, students and others who may work in or visit
our schools and facilities. The Board of Trustees, Superintendent
and Administration acknowledge that the District's most important
assets are the employees, the children we educate and the community
we serve.
While interfacing with schools and departments, Risk Management
is supporting the District's responsibility to insure regulatory
compliance, employee training, hazard assessment/abatement,
accident prevention, safety, health and loss control investigations.
Safety and Health program implementation is guided by the District
Safety Specialist who serves as an employee advocate for ensuring
a safe work environment exists and safe work habits are practiced.
Safety and Health Program implementation and effectiveness
is supported by the role of site-specific safety representatives.
Safety Coordinators are representatives in each school and department
serving as the liaison between employees and Risk Management.
Safety Coordinators function as a vital communication link in
support of employee safety and health needs. Risk Management
relies on Safety Coordinator assistance for the gathering and
dissemination of information to support safety requirements.
Safety and Health programs are effective means of focusing
on accident and injury prevention. NISD Risk Management is intent
upon measuring accident and injury data not only to identify
trends and issues but to demonstrate the effectiveness of corrective
actions. Statistical and cost analysis reviews are performed
for all levels of service, function and location.
A formidable effort exists to develop school and department
specific employee safety and health initiatives reflective upon
analysis and review. Periodic "Needs Assessment" surveys
are conducted with customer departments to tailor safety and
health activities to their individual operations and exposures.
