MAY 2012 NEWS
31 May 2012: Last Day of 2011-2012 Academic Year...We close the 2011-2012 school year with a look back at our successes, growth and fond memories. We look ahead to a well-earned summer vacation. All staff here at Hatchett Elementary would like to extend to you well wishes for a happy and safe summer break. See you all back here in August! Take care.

May 2012: Grade Level Awards Assemblies...You are invited to attend our Awards Assemblies where student achievement will be recognized by grade level. These assemblies will be held in the school cafeteria. We encourage students to dress nicely. We hope you can attend. Please refer to the schedule below:

17 May 2012: Hatchett Family Night at the Missions...If you have purchased your tickets, we ask that you join in participating in a Family Night at 7:00 pm at Wolff Stadium. Hatchett staff, students, and parents will gather to cheer on the San Antonio Missions while enjoying a wonderful time together. Hope to see you there!

11 May 2012: Early Release...Classes for all students will end early today. Student dismissal today will be at 11:45 am. Please ensure that you have informed your child's teacher of the transportation arrangements for your child.

8 May 2012: PTA Meeting - End-of-Year Program...All students and parents are welcome to attend our Spring Program. Our teachers and students will collaborate on a wonderful program. Everyone should gather in the cafeteria. The Spring Program should begin following a brief PTA meeting at 6:00 pm. Hope to see you there!

4 May 2012: Hatchett Cultural Awareness Fair...All students will have an opportunity to participate in games and fun activities celebrating cultural awareness. Our teachers and students will have a great time. Parents are welcome to volunteer.

APRIL 2012 NEWS
30 April - 4 May 2012 : Book Fair...Our Hatchett Hurricane Book Fair will begin today. Students should be taking home a book order form. The Book Fair will extend from April 30 to May 4. Hope to see you there!

26 April 2012: STAAR TESTING...Today all students across the state of Texas in grade 5 will take the STAAR assessment. Please ensure your child gets plenty of rest the night before, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time. Test will start promptly in the morning and extend throughout the day. Make every effort to ensure your child is present for testing and that they will remain in school for the entire day. Please reschedule doctor's visits, dentist's visits and other appointments for a different day. Testing will be as follows:

17 April 2012: Kindergarten Round Up from 5:30 pm -7:00 pm...All parents of children, in our attendance zone, who will start Kindergarten in August of 20012 are invited to attend a Kindergarten Round Up. We will start the Round Up at 5:30 pm and wrap up by 7:00 pm. The Round Up will include an opportunity to register your child for Kindergarten, information about Kinder academics, and a chance to meet Kinder teachers. 2 March 2012 : Hatchett Field Days for 3-4-5...During these days, all students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth will participate in Field Day activities coordinated by our Physical Education department. Activities will include field event, relay events and dashes.

24 February 2012: Title I Parent Coffee...All parents and community members interested in learning more about the Title I status for Hatchett Elementary are invited to atted a Parent coffee session from 8:00 to 9:00 am. Ms. Piñon, Hatchett Principal, will facilitate a short discussion on what Title I status means, how this status impacts children at and staff at Hatchett, and how parents play a role. 26 January 2012: Hatchett Spelling Bee...The Hatchett Spelling Bee will be conducted throughout the day. Students participating in this year's spelling bee will gather and compete according to guidelines. Contact your child's teacher for additional information regarding the Spelling Bee. We expect the winner of today's competition to represent Hatchett Elementary in the city-wide Spelling Bee competition later in the year.

25 January 2012: Hatchett Bike Rodeo...All students will have the opportunity to participate in Bike Rodeo activities coordinated by our Physical Education department and the San Antonio Police Department. Activities will include a bike safety check and an obstacle course. Each grade level will have a set time for their Bike Rodeo activities.

10 January 2012: Science Family Night...All students - Kinder to 5th Grade - and their parents are invited to attend our Science Family Night. We will start with dinner at 5:30 pm. At 6:00 pm, all participants will be treated to participating in student age-appropriate science activities. Everyone will get to attend and participate in two different science activities. We will wrap everything up by 7:00 pm. Hope to see you there!

2 January 2012: Classes Resume...We welcome all students back to the second half of the academic year. Today all classes resume at the regular time. Welcome to 2010!

19 December 2011 - 1 January 2012: Holiday - Winter Break...There will be no classes for this entire period. Classes for all students will resume on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the regular time. Enjoy your Winter Break. See you in the New Year!

21 - 25 November 2011: Holiday - Thanksgiving Break...There will be no classes for the entire week. Classes for all students will resume on Monday at the regular time. Enjoy your Thanksgiving Day!

11 November 2011: Veteran's Day Program...All parents and community members are invited to attend activities celebrating Veterans Day and honoring our military personnel. Please join us in the cafeteria at 8:00 am. Our celebration should wrap up around 9:00 am.

7 - 11 November 2011: Book Fair...Our Hatchett Hurricane Book Fair will begin today. Students should be taking home a book order form. The Book Fair will extend from November 7 to November 11. Hope to see you there!

1 November 2011: Book Character Parade...Students will dress as favorite book characters and march in parade throughout the school to promote reading and learning. Students in costume must also bring the book with their character to display as they march in parade.

24-28 October 2011: Red Ribbon Week...This week we celebrate Red Ribbon Week. We commit to living a drug-free lifestyle and celebrate our choice with different activities throughout the week.

11 October 2011 to 17 November 2011: Afterschool Tutoring...Students and Teachers will begin afterschool tutoring sessions this Wednesday for students. Afterschool tutoring will occur from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please make the necessary adjustments to transportation arrangements to ensure that your child is picked up on time. Thanks for supporting this important academic intervention program.
