The CHILD process has been in place as an early intervention and identification system to address potential problems and/or challenges individual students may face that ultimately effect and/or affect their success in school. This process starts as soon as possible for a student who is struggling behaviorally, socially, academically, physically and/or communicatively.
Early intervention with documentation and a plan/process usually prevents more severe problems from developing had the original problem never been addressed or insufficiently addressed. In addition, the process helps in our effort for every student to experience success.
The CHILD process has three levels of intervention documentation, problem-solving and decision making. Level 4 is the referral process.
Level 1: Classroom/Teacher Identification of students having difficulty
Level 2: Grade Level/Team/Mentor Collaboration and Consultation
Level 3: Campus Level Review Consultation and Decision Making
Level 4: Campus/Community or Special Education Referral
