ALPHA Middle School

Grades 6-8

Northside Independent School District middle school students are offered interdisciplinary units on broad-based issues, problems, and themes reflecting student interest. Incorporated into these studies are strategies which emphasize:

  • critical thinking
  • creative production
  • logical thinking
  • creative problem solving
  • communication
  • research
  • self development

Alpha Middle School students participate in various interdisciplinary units as scheduled by individual schools.

A content connection between the ALPHA class instruction and content class is made to enhance the students' educational experiences. Nature Venture and Mentathlon are two special annual ALPHA events in which G/T students from all Northside middle schools participate.

Other middle school services for Gifted Education include:

  • Honors, Pre-AP and Gifted content courses
  • Credit by examination

GT Mentathlon

One thousand 7th graders put their brains to the test during two days of mental challenges, problem solving and teamwork.  It’s a battle of the minds, otherwise known as GT Mentathlon.

In grades 9-12, students participate in the ALPHA High School program.
