ALPHA Middle School
Grades 6-8
Northside Independent School District middle school students are offered interdisciplinary units on broad-based issues, problems, and themes reflecting student interest. Incorporated into these studies are strategies which emphasize:
- critical thinking
- creative production
- logical thinking
- creative problem solving
- communication
- research
- self development
Alpha Middle School students participate in various interdisciplinary units as scheduled by individual schools.
A content connection between the ALPHA class instruction and content class is made to enhance the students' educational experiences. Nature Venture and Mentathlon are two special annual ALPHA events in which G/T students from all Northside middle schools participate.
Other middle school services for Gifted Education include:
- Honors, Pre-AP and Gifted content courses
- Credit by examination
GT Mentathlon
One thousand 7th graders put their brains to the test during two days of mental challenges, problem solving and teamwork. It’s a battle of the minds, otherwise known as GT Mentathlon.
In grades 9-12, students participate in the ALPHA High School program.
