Colby Glass Elementary sponsors a Young Astronaut Chapter. The Young Astronaut Council was formed by the White House in 1984 to help kids experience the fun and adventure of learning. Today it is the largest youth aerospace organization in the world. This year's topic is about how astronauts work in space and on the International Space Station. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages to working in space? What are changes astronauts have to make when working, using tools, eating, or sleeping in space? Fifth grade Young Astronaut students also go to the annual night Star Gazing Field Trip on February 28, where they will rotate through creative stations to learn more about space. During this event, The San Antonio Astrology Club brings telescopes so the students can see different stars and the moon.
