Board and Superintendent Goals
Ensure the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Year Five Activities of the Five Year Strategic Plan.
Appoint and convene a district-wide Strategic Planning Advisory Committee to develop priorities and objectives for the 2008-2013 NISD Strategic Plan.
Continue focused support to schools so that performance continues above the state average on TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) and exceeds the standards outlined in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.
Direct and oversee the expansion and implementation of Year Three of the Curriculum Management System so that curriculum is readily available and instruction is planned and differentiated to meet student needs.
Plan and develop the design, program, and organizational structure of the Construction Trades Academy.
Continue to enhance security across the district to promote safe and secure schools and work environments for all students and employees by: (1) training school personnel and police department in the use of new radios which provide direct access to the new police department communication system; (2) training NISD police in new methods to handle crises in the district; (3) increasing access control and security measures at some Central Office locations; and (4) putting procedures in place to follow all new legislation dealing with bus safety and campus safety.
Work with staff and community representatives on the implementation and communication for the 2007 bond program.
Monitor and work with legislators on supporting efforts to establish a weighted-student funding system that recognizes all programs and services including academic instruction, instructional support, extracurricular activities, and technology, necessary to prepare students to contribute positively to society.
Ensure that the district continues on the direction of financial stability.
Acquire and implement a new Business/HR Information System.
Initiate a targeted plan for minority recruiting, hiring and career progression.
Continue to expand Parent Connection so that parents have timely online access to data and information in order to increase collaboration and communication between parents and the school district.
Deploy a wireless network to expand existing connectivity at all NISD campuses in order to support instructional and operational goals.
Reduce the annual electric consumption by five percent each year for six years, beginning September 1, 2007.
