About Our Namesake

 

Nora Forester, Northside's first remedial reading teacher, was committed to making sure every student in the District learned to read, no matter their challenges. In the 1960s, Forester secured a federal grant to put a reading specialist in every school, making Northside one of the first districts in the nation to do so.
La señora Nora Forester, la primera maestra de lectura remediadora del Distrito Northside, estaba dedicada a asegurar que cada estudiante en el distrito aprendiera a leer, sin importar los retos. En los anos 60’s, la Sra. Forester consiguió una donación federal para asignar un especialista de lectura en cada escuela, haciendo de Northside uno de los primeros distritos en la nación en hacerlo.
 
She later became the District's director of elementary reading and language arts and implemented a number of innovative programs, including Reading Recovery and Young Authors Program.

Now retired after 37 years in education, she continues her contributions to Northside working with retired teachers and the Northside School Museum Association.

Nora Forester Elementary School is located at 10726 Rousseau. It's school colors are forest green and golden yellow. A dragon by the name of "Blaze" is the mascot.
