Standing Ovations


As part of the  25th Anniversary Celebration of Earthwise Living Day, sponsored by the City of Leon Valley, theatre students from Folks MS, Pat Neff MS, and Stevenson MS, have volunteered to dazzle the audience with some exciting mime acts and clown routines.  Earthwise Living Day is scheduled  for March 1, 2014 at the Leon Valley Civic Center, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.

NISD instructors preparing theatre students for this event include Folks director Cheri Parker, Neff director John Perez, and Stevenson director Nancy Pawelek. 

 

Congratulations to our Northside ISD high school art students for the tremendous showing in the 2014 Regional Level of Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), held on February 22 at Stevens HS.   Northside has 39 students who have qualified for the State Level of VASE.  A total of 1505 art students participated in the event.   Stevens HS alone had 6 students qualify for state, the third highest number of students from a single campus.  The event and scoring not only showcases  great art pieces, but incorporates  a 7 minute question-answer dialogue betwee

Jazz ensembles from Garcia, Connally, and Jones Middle School and concert bands from Luna Middle School and Holmes High School joined in the 2014 Special Olympics held at Gus Stadium during the week of March 3-7.  Ensembles provided entertainment before the opening ceremony as well as parade music for competing teams of athletes from each elementary, middle, and high school as they passed the reviewing stands.

 

The Earl Warren A Capella Choir, under the leadership of directors Anna Trawick and Neal Patel, recently competed in the Southwest Semifinals of the International Championship of High School a Capella.

Founded in 1944, the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world dedicated to the promotion of vocal education and research.  Annually,  NATS hosts a student region qualifying event to certify vocalists that will compete at the national level. 

On Thursday night, April 24, 2014, approximately 5,000 high school band students from 27 San Antonio local high school and surrounding communities participated in the largest public music education experience held annually during Fiesta Week.  This year’s theme “ The Magic of Make Believe” was a sell out at Comalander Stadium, with Northside ISD bands sweeping highest honors in both class 4A and 5A categories of competition.

The Luis Brandeis High School Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo won their respective categories of competition at the St. Mary’s Jazz Festival held Saturday, April26, 20014.  This is the second year that both groups repeated as champions in each category.
