Northside Department of Fine Arts in partnership with ArtsSA hosted two master dance classes this morning at Stevens High School. The master classes where presented by the Sahrdaya Foundation, a traditional Indian Dance and Theatre troupe from San Antonio's sister city, Chennai, India. Students from Holmes, Stevens and Brandeis where also special guest at the troupe's performance the night before.
As a special invite from State Board Member, Marisa Perez, students from Northside ISD and San Antonio ISD collaborated to present an incredible 15 minute performance before the general SBOE meeting in Austin. Pictured are Folklorico dancers from Communications Arts HS and Stevens HS along with Mariachi Aguila from Brackenridge HS.
Fine Arts students from Stevens, Brennan and Holmes performed at this year's Northside Education Foundation Pillar Recognition & Banquet presented at the Valero Energy Cooperation. The theatre students from Stevens and Brennan greeted guest as they arrived.
Jazz ensembles from Pease MS, Luna MS, and Clark HS livened up the annual district visual arts gallery entitled Artfest 2015 by providing an evening of hot jazz. The event was held Friday, May 9 and Saturday May 10 at the Paul Taylor Field House with over 3,100 art pieces on exhibit.
Marshall HS Theatre Department, under the direction of Marion Sweatmon and Maurice Harris continue to dominate the UIL One-Act Play Contest by advancing in 4 areas: Zone, District, Bi-District, and Area. Now they are on their way to compete in the UIL Regional Contest on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Jefferson HS.
NISD Special Olympians were escorted into Gus Stadium during the week of March 23-26 for annual competition with the assistance of drumlines and brass bands from NISD high schools. Leading the way were the drumlines from Tom C. Clark HS and the brass band/percussion section from Earl Warren HS.
Folks MS band students ventured into the world of music composition, using FINALE software to generate final products consisting of a professional sheet of music and a CD recording of their compositions. Five band students received honorable mention for their music compositions in the annual district PTA REFLECTIONS CONTEST.
David Cain, NISD Elementary Music /Secondary Vocal Supervisor, was chosen by the Texas Music Administrators Conference as the 2016 “Music Administrator of the Year” for excellence in support of music education. David has taught music for over 35 years and continues to provide instructors the necessary tools to be highly successful in the classroom.
