  1. What kind of program is Chavez Excel Academy?
    Chavez Excel Academy is an academic alternative high school diploma program.
  2. What are the requirements to enroll?
    A high school student who resides in the Northside Independent School District, earned at least 17 credits towards graduation, at least 17 years of age (less than 21) and has passed all exit level exams.
  3. Is it a real diploma?
    Yes, Chavez Excel Academy is a certified Northside Independent School District high school and accredited by the Texas Education Agency.
  4. Can my diploma have my previous school's name?
    Upon completion of the graduation requirements set by the State of Texas, students will be  awarded a high school diploma.  Effective in the fall of the 2009-2010 school year, students  that have transferred to Chavez Excel Academy from one of the Northside ISD high schools will be issued a diploma with the name of the campus from which they transferred.  (This does NOT include transfer from Magnet Schools). For example, a  student transferring from Warren High School, upon completion of graduation requirements  will receive a diploma with Warren High School printed on it.  Students who have not been  enrolled at their home campus for one year or more, will be awarded an Excel Academy diploma.
    Note: Students receiving a diploma from Chavez Excel Academy, regardless of what your diploma reads, are not eligible to participate in the home campuses’ graduation ceremony or other related activities. Students are only eligible to participate in either the winter or summer graduation ceremonies offered to Chavez Excel Academy students.
    Students who transfer from a school outside of Northside ISD, will receive a Chavez Excel Academy diploma. All students’ permanent school records will remain under Chavez Excel Academy regardless of what your diploma reads.
  5. How long will it take to graduate?
    Since Chavez Excel Academy is an accelerated curriculum, it depends on the student's individual motivation, attendance, and reading level.
  6. What are the school hours?
    a.) Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m
    b.) Fridays 8:00am - 3:00pm
    c.) Students age 17, must be present for 5 consecutive hours.
  7. d.) Students age 18 and older, must be present for 4 consecutive hours.

  8. Do you offer child care?
    No, however, Northside Independent School District offers a School Age Parenting program. For more information call 397-8111.
  9. Is there tuition to enroll at Chavez Excel Academy?
    No, Chavez Excel Academy is part of the Northside Independent School District.
  10. Does Chavez Excel Academy have a ranking system for graduating seniors?
    Ranking is not calculated here due to both a changing population and our open entry/open exit policy.
  11. Can a Special Education student enroll at Chavez Excel Academy?
    Yes. Every Special Education application must be evaluated by our Special Education Coordinator to determine if Chavez Excel Academy is an appropriate placement.
  12. What kind of curriculum does Chavez Excel Academy offer?
    Chavez Excel Academy offers a computer-based program using Gradpoint, in addition to off-line applications such as reports, projects, power-point presentations, etc.
  13. Does Chavez Excel Academy offer extra-curricular activities?
    No, Chavez Excel Academy offers only academic courses.
  14. If a student received a GED, can they enroll at Chavez Excel Academy to get their high school diploma?
    Yes, as long as other requirements are met.
