CALL FOR MENTORS:

Are you willing to
mentor a student
and share your
expertise?

One of the unique aspects of Communications Arts High School is that each senior is required to take Independent Study Mentorship. The purpose of this course is to provide each senior with an independent study research experience coupled with an opportunity to visit on a regular basis with a mentor who has expertise in the area of the student’s topic. Students are encouraged to mentor in the career field they plan to pursue.

The mentor’s role is to meet with the student and guide them as they experience the field. At the meetings, students can ask questions about the field or their research, sit in on meetings and/or shadow the mentor in the workplace. This allows the student to get hands-on experience as they observe the mentor in action. Mentors can also recommend books and articles and assist the student with the final product. Students meet twice a six weeks for approximately one hour. If both parties agree, they can meet more often.

Each year, we must secure over 110 new mentors. If you are willing to mentor a student and share your expertise or know of someone who can, please email or call Mrs. Malik. Please contact her at shelliemalik@nisd.net .
