Why a
website?
The first question that
many teachers and instructors ask is, "Why should I make a
website? How will it benefit me or my students?"
Web sites are a vital
communication tool that almost anyone in instruction -- or in fact,
in any part of education -- can benefit from. Just a few of their
potential uses include:
- As a source of information
about the class or classes. This helps students learn more before
enrolling.
- For administrators,
a Web page can help fulfull the obligation to keep the public
informed.
- As a class repository,
making course documents (syllabus, readings list, assignment sheets,
etc.) available to students throughout the semester.
- As a public repository,
making essential documents, forms and other information available
to the public at all times.
- As a teaching tool
in the classroom, as a hands-on learning tool for students (in
electronic classrooms) and as a presentation tool for teachers.
- As an information
gathering tool, giving students or the public the opportunity
to share their opinions or concerns or to ask questions.
- As a teaching tool
outside the classroom, with notes, diagrams, online quizzes, links
to resources, and other tools to help students in their learning.
- As a source of information
about the teacher. Students and others can learn about the instructor's
education, research, and what interests them about the subject(s)
they teach.
This website was created
to help educatorrs learn more about what a website can do for them,
and to guide them in the creation of their first simple website.
