Learning Links Counselor's Corner
Mrs. Lanet Clark, the Counselor at Colonies North, implements the Northside Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program, a model for guidance programs in the State of Texas. Mrs. Clark recently moved here from Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was a school counselor there for five years. She is beginning her third year at Colonies North.
Kindergarten through fifth grade students attend guidance classes with their counselor. The class lessons are developed from the seven skill goals of the Guidance Curriculum. Students may also participate in small counseling groups on various topics, such as peer relationships. Some students spend time individually with a counselor. Small group and individual counseling is done with parent consultation and permission.
The counselors also coordinate many school wide programs, such as the district testing program, the mentor program, and Safe and Drug Free Schools activities.
