Learning Links Counselor's Corner
Angela Ross, the Counselor at Colonies North, implements the Northside Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Program, a model for guidance programs in the State of Texas.
Kindergarten through fifth grade students attend guidance classes with their counselor. The class lessons are developed from the seven skill goals of the Guidance Curriculum. Students may also participate in small counseling groups on various topics, such as peer relationships. Some students spend time individually with a counselor. Small group and individual counseling is done with parent consultation and permission.
The counselor also coordinates many school wide programs, such as the district testing program, the mentor program, and Safe and Drug Free Schools activities.
