The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) meet with CCA students. NAWIC members from DIRTT, Spaw Glass, and TCCI/PACE meet with female students to discuss industry needs to include BIM, modular walls, and business ethics. Over 45 students attended the event. The event was held on the campus of CCA in the LGI room.

Academy students visit UTSA. Twenty-five students from the Academy take a tour of UTSA's Architect and Design Program. Students met with UTSA officials and received a first-hand look at the BIM, drafting and construction labs at UTSA. The visit was part of CCA's ongoing efforts to expose students to opportunities in the construction industry.

CCA engineering students participated in STEM Day hosted by St. Philips College. Fifth grade students throughout the San Antonio area converged on the campus of St. Philips College to participate in STEM Day. Senior engineering students from the Academy showcased their bridges. The models were part of a structural engineering project. Students had to create, design and calculate the loads for a bridge of their choosing.

CCA students can now log their own service hours using the new electronic format. CCA has partnered with OurVolts for logging service hours. Students can visit the login page from the "Resource" tab on the CCA website or visit the login page directly at http://nisd.net/cca/ServiceHoursLogin

CCA students visit the campus of St. Philips college. Fourty-one sophomores visit the campus of St. Philips college and learn about the campuses carpentry, electrical, plumbing, manufacturing, aviation, and alternative energy programs.

CCA architects visit the build site of Tiny Texas Homes. Students learned about building techniques through creating livable, sustainable, healthy and beautiful tiny houses through the use of salvaged material. Students learned how pure salvage designs, construction techniques, and principals can be applied to the construction of a home.

City Public Service (CPS) Energy met with CCA students. Representatives from CPS met with students to engage them in a dialogue about strategic energy planning, energy efficiency initiatives, environmental programs, and energy safety. The visit was part of the Academy's ongoing efforts to expose students to the industry and increase awareness.

CCA Engineers were challenged to build structures in various soil conditions using piers under the foundation. As part of the engineering challenge students were required to level the structure and collect data.

Monday, Feb 16, is a student holiday. CCA will take advantage of the opportunity and have a CCA workday on the construction of the container homes. Students interested in picking up extra service hours should attend. ALL GRADE LEVELS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE. Start time is 10am to 3pm, lunch will be served.
