This year’s spring parent meeting is set for May 1st, 2014, 6:30pm to 8:00pm. During the meeting parents will participate in a town hall type venue. Parents will see a “year in review,” get an opportunity to participate in a question and response session, share their ideas on how to improve CCA, meet with instructors, and tour the facility. All CCA parents are encouraged to attend. The CCA Parent Partnership Team will provide hotdogs, chips and a drink at no cost (donations will be accepted).

CCA student Joshua Ibarra wins 800 meter at district. Joshua took the top spot in the 800 meter with an impressive time of 1:59:80. He will be moving on to compete in the Area competition this weekend. Good luck Joshua!

Representatives from LP Building Products visit the campus to provide Academy students training on LP Products. Aaron Kluger from LP Building Products met with students to provide training on the install of LP engineered products. Students were given the opportunity to evaluate products and their sustainability.

On April 10th the San Antonio Chapter, Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) held their monthly meeting at Construction Careers Academy. Over 60 plumbers throughout the region visited the campus. Phillip Edge, Principal of CCA, served as a guest speaker. The associational members received information on CCA's advanced curriculum, participated in a question and response session on the Academy's program, and toured the facility. The event was part of CCA's continuing efforts to connect with the business community and provide students with real-world experience.

The prestigous CCA Patch is now available. Students can earn their letterman patch by completing their service hours. Students must complete 32 or more service hours during their tenure at CCA. Current Juniors and Seniors were grandfathered in under the old requirement of 20 service hours. Students who complete the required service hours will be awarded the patch.

Team CCA competes in the San Antonio Construction Careers Expo "Build Your Future" competition held at the San Antonio Freeman Coliseum. CCA's build team competed against eight schools from around the region. The top two spots were taken by Northside schools. Stevens High School, lead by Kyle Kuenemann, took the top spot and Team CCA, lead by Michael Byrnes, took second. Team CCA demonstrated their mastery of concepts learned at CCA.

As part of CCA's college readiness efforts students visited the campus of Texas A&M in College Station, TX. Fourty-nine students made the trip. Texas A&M rolled out the red carpet. Students toured the campus, received a first-hand look at A&M's Construction Science program, visited a classroom, learned about the history and traditions of A&M, looked at campus life and enjoyed a home cook meal in the cafeteria .

CCA students hit a home run with Habitat For Humanity. On Saturday, March 29th, over 26 students from CCA partnered with Habitat For Humanity to build a home for a family in need. Students had an opportunity to hone the skills learned in CCA, gain real-world experience, and serve the community. Click Here for more pictures.

CCA host the Skills USA competition for college regionals. CCA instructors serve as judges for the competition.
