Thursday, March 26th, all NISD 8th grade students receiving an offer to attend CCA, in the fall, were invited out for an orientation. Over 325 parents and students came out. Students and parents had an opportunity to visit with current CCA students, members of the CCA Parent Partnership, instructors, and staff. CCA is in the running to win $20,000. Academy students entered the CCA home build in the 2014-2015 San Antonio Spurs Team Up Challenge. The homes entered were the Wounded Warrior/Handicap and Green/LEAD homes. The project is one of the finalist for the $20,000 cash award. Academy students are asking for your help by voting. Students in the geometry in construction class were challenged to engineer kites. Students used geometry concepts from class to design and engineer kites "that would fly." Although not all kites got off the ground, most took to the air with the grace and poise of Orville and Wilbur Wright. The project was a huge success.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) meet with CCA students. NAWIC members from DIRTT, Spaw Glass, and TCCI/PACE meet with female students to discuss industry needs to include BIM, modular walls, and business ethics. Over 45 students attended the event. The event was held on the campus of CCA in the LGI room.

Academy students visit UTSA. Twenty-five students from the Academy take a tour of UTSA's Architect and Design Program. Students met with UTSA officials and received a first-hand look at the BIM, drafting and construction labs at UTSA. The visit was part of CCA's ongoing efforts to expose students to opportunities in the construction industry.

CCA engineering students participated in STEM Day hosted by St. Philips College. Fifth grade students throughout the San Antonio area converged on the campus of St. Philips College to participate in STEM Day. Senior engineering students from the Academy showcased their bridges. The models were part of a structural engineering project. Students had to create, design and calculate the loads for a bridge of their choosing.
