Carlos W. Coon Elementary School opened in 1978 as Northside's 22nd Elementary School. The school was originally designed for the open classroom concept.Since that time
the school has undergone several changes, including a new addition in 1986 and a new kitchen in 2001.In keeping with the Northside Independent School District traditionof naming elementary schools after the area or subdivision in which they are located or after individuals who have made significant contributions to the educational program of the District, the school was named after Carlos W. Coon. He was strongly involved in P.T.A. which eventually led to his election to the Board of Trustees. Mr. Coon was a frequent visitor to the school until his death in March 1989.
