Northside Independent School District - San Antonio, TX

Karen Freeman, a long-time NISD community volunteer, was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2005 and currently serves as President of the Board. She serves on the Academics, Finance, Technology, Building, and Policy and Intergovernmental Relations committees. She has earned the status of "Master Trustee" as a 2009 graduate of Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards).

Freeman has served on School Advisory Teams, the first NISD School Boundary Advisory Committee, NISD Strategic Plan committees, three NISD Bond committees (1998, 2001, and 2004) and the NISD Citizens' Bond Advisory Committee. Additionally, Freeman has held numerous PTA and Booster Organization positions in NISD schools and is an Honorary Life Member of the Texas PTA.

Freeman earned a bachelor's of science degree in medical technology at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and is currently working as an administrative assistant in her husband's medical office practice and assists with special projects for Home Instead Senior Care. She is married to Dr. Ted Freeman, and together they have four children, all graduates of O'Connor High School. Kathy, Michelle, and Jason are graduates of the University of Texas at Austin, and Jeanine is a graduate of the University of Houston. Kathy and Michelle have earned graduate degrees from Texas Tech and Purdue University respectively.

The Freemans are members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Helotes.
