April 1, 2015

April marks the nation’s Month of the Military Child. As a way to honor military youth affected by deployment, school district employees and students across the state are encouraged to wear purple on Tuesday, April 15, as part of “Purple Up! for Military Kids.”

Technology is nothing new in NISD classrooms. The use of it continues to expand and have a positive impact on the way teachers teach and students learn. Click here to watch Aue ES second graders use iPads to teach a science lesson to Kindergarten students.

Do we want a system of education that is good for all of our children or one that is good for only a few? Several school voucher bills have been filed in the current legislative session. This is not the first session where we have seen vouchers proposed and it likely won’t be the last.

Once again, Northside is expecting a large kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year, making it all the more critical that parents register their children during Kinder Roundup in order to secure a seat at their neighborhood school. More than 7,500 kindergarten students are expected to enroll for the 2015-16 school year.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved Summer School programs, approved an attendance cap for Taft HS, adopted instructional materials for the 2015-2016 school year, and appointed two campus administrators.
